Mom told the family, "my cookies are going to be this year's recipe of the week"  Very funny Mom, must be where I get my charming sense of humor !

You know I love you.

Anyhow, so I went over to Mom's yesterday there they were, big as life, bigger even, and they were quite simply the best cookies I've ever had.  And still warm from the oven...mmmm!

The Best of All Possible Molasses Cookies

1-1/2 c sifted flour
3/4 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
1/2 c crisco
3/4 c sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 c raisins
1/2 c chopped nuts (mom used walnuts, but would pecans be good?)

Sift flour, baking soda and salt together.
Cream together (I typed "cram" by mistake...should have left it there!) shortening, sugar, egg and molasses.  Blend in dry ingredients gradually and mix thoroughly.  Add raisins and nuts. Chill. (the dough, not you.  You're fine.)
When ready to bake, preheat oven to 375.  Roll out dough on a floured board to about 1/4 - 1/2" thick.  Cut cookies using a round cookie cutter (you could use other shapes, but don't bother.  After you bake them, you'll see why).  Dip each cookie in sugar and bake on lightly greased or non-stick cookie sheet for 10-12 minutes.
